My family and I are looking at a possible move to Seattle, with a job in the South Lake Union area. I have a teenage son who could be a character on "Glee" (only without all the personal drama) because show choir is his life! I have another teenage son who is a theater "techie," specializing in lights.

Are there any high schools in Seattle with a solid choir/theater programs? We are looking for a family-oriented neighborhood with plenty of kids (we have 6). Of course, the commute can't be forever, and a "small-town feel" would be ideal, because we are used to a town of about 30,000. We also need to be able to afford a house big enough to hold us all (I know, Mercer Island is out).

Any information and advice is appreciated!

Within the city of Seattle, Roosevelt High School is noted for it's musicals. Every year there are awards for best high school musicals in the state, and Roosevelt usually does well. Garfield is the other Seattle high school famous for it's music.
In Bellevue, Sammamish HS is noted for it's theatre, and in Renton, Hazen High School has four choirs.

Thanks! Can you give me any advice on housing in the neighborhoods of those schools? We have trouble finding houses with a lot of square footage that are not extra-fancy and therefore too expensive. We need large and practical

The most house for the money in the areas near the above schools would be in the eastern Renton Highlands. There are some brand new homes for sale there, over 2000 square feet, and under 400,000 dollars. Older homes are less expensive. But it's further from downtown Seattle.
The most costly housing for a larger home would be Northeast Seattle near Roosevelt High School, or in Bellevue near Sammamish High. NE Seattle is very pleasant, safe, with a lot of nearby activities. Bellevue has great schools and low crime.
