I have finally had enough of the passive aggressive social tyranny that rules Seattle. I am working getting out. I am juggling preservation of my career with moving back to Phoenix, AZ a.s.a.p.

I look forward to being around live people again!

Why Phoenix? Is it because it is the land of the sun or??? Just curious.

I think Flagstaff is a much nicer area having visited both.

I lived in Phoenix from 1986 to 2001 and developed some good social ties there.

I moved to Seattle in 2001 for career reasons and six years later still feel like an outsider.

It is my personal lesson learned - in my case Phoeinx is meant to be my home. Seattle is not.

Is the weather getting to you as well? Or just the social situation?

The weather does not bother me at all. It is the social situation.

Where are you trying to meet people?? Organized sports is always a good place.

It's always hard to meet people in a city where you don't know anyone although it's probably that much harder in Seattle. Moving back to a place where you already have friends is the easy way out but it won't really test your ability to meet new people if you are put under the same circumstances again.

After 38 years I feel I NEED to leave. Over the past 8 years we have continueally had longer grey winters. It's a drag. Both my husband and I have been on the verge of the SAD. Family and jobs keep us here but the weather is beyond rediculous. The sunny days we get few and far between just aren't enough. Has anyone looked at the calendar AND out the window? So, anyone have any ideas on how to beat the grey? Get outside? I feel cold to the bone. I should mention I just had a blood test and found I'm vitamin D deficient. Yes, I eat a well balanced diet, apparently people in this region are prone to this. We need more sun. Any good ideas?

Gosh if the weather doesn't bother you, go join some outdoor groups. There's all sorts of them from running to biking to climbing. If you are active, you should be able to find some fun people. Check the paper, especially during the summer they have all sorts of different activities most free, some have a small fee. Enjoy!
