It will be cheaper up north in Shoreline, Edmonds, Lynnwood, etc. There are some places in south everett which are nice, too.

Take care and good luck!
There are decent places in Renton for less than $1thou per month too. Only problem is it's a long drive to and from Everett. Even commuting to and from the city can be sluggish traffic at times.

Long? Long doesn't even begin to describe the time it will take. If he wants cheaper places to stay, he should look in south everett, north edmonds, hell even Mukilteo will have houses for rent that are nice and cheaper. There's no way in hell I'd recommend him look in Renton if there's a shred of a chance that he or his wife will work in Everett.

Let me give you an example.

I commute every other day from Mercer Island to Everett. It takes 45 minutes in the morning, 1 hour in the afternoon. I hit a solid wall of traffic in Bellevue, starting at 520, and it goes all the way down to renton. It will take him at least an hour and 45 minutes to go from Everett to Renton at peak rush hour.

Going through Seattle isn't any better either.

Please for the love of God, do not look at Renton or anywhere south of I-90, or south of say Kirkland if I'm to be honest.

Eskercurve is correct on this. Many years ago, when we were new to the area, we bought a house in Lake Stevens. It was brand new and oh so cheap. We wondered why everyone wasn't doing this. My commute to Bothell wasn't all that bad either. Then I had to commute to Bellevue. We could not get rid of that house fast enough. The commute was often two hours. That was well over ten years ago and I don't think the traffic has improved.
