I haven't had much luck finding a room in dtown Bellevue or Seattle. I tried Craigslist and a couple of random websites. But I can't seem to find anyone who is looking to rent out a room in a more modern apartment. (elements-too, bravern etc.) Can someone point me out to a site where downtown locals post ads on rooms they want to rent? I'm going to be working in Downtown Bellevue, but I wouldn't mind living in dtown Seattle. Thanks!

I would guess that's because there really aren't many people looking for roommates in the Braeburn condos rather than anyplace you were checking. The downtown Bellevue apartments (and certainly the condos) have never struck me as an easy place to find a roommate because they tend to be brand new and expensive and most of the folks renting or buying them are not in that phase of life.

That said you might also check thestranger or seattleweekly's roommate wanted sections.

Well, most of those units are pricey. Elements is up around $2000 for your basic 2bd apartment. Most people who can't afford $2000 a month in rent will just go off and rent a 1bd or studio for $1000 rather than deal with roommates. Not that there aren't options available, there just aren't that many. You'd probably have better luck in Seattle where you have a more diverse population. Bellevue, especially downtown, is pretty strictly well-educated corporate world types. They A have more money and B very much want a quiet place to come home to.

I would avoid roommate listings in publications/websites that offer free/cheap ads, too many chances of scammers or nutcases. The
Sunday Seattle Times will have some, though not many. You might consider posting at the local grocery store, at work, church or other places where there are likely to be people that at least have a good chance of being legitimate. As other have mentioned the upscale apartments are not nearly as likely to have people looking to share, as the people can afford them or wouldn't be there. BTW the Bravern is for sale currently, don't know if that is good or bad for the residents.

I don't think that the residential towers are for sale - just the retail portion of the development.

For what it's worth, I have found many quality roommate situations using Craigslist. It's all about doing your research after reading the ad - meeting your prospective roommates face-to-face, etc. Also, simply judging the style (and quality) of writing in the ad can tell you a lot.
