The new Issaquah campus is located a good 15-20 miles from the main campus in Redmond.

The Issaquah Highlands area is being rapidly developed. A huge park and ride facility has just been built and many new sub-divisions and retail developments are being phased in.

It still won't be "cheap" but I still advise to find someplace close to reduce travel time even though rent may be higher. I think it's a good trade off.
Could you give me specific areas to look (been looking at Craigslist) for rentals? Or is Issaquah Highlands really all there is?
He only needs a 1 or 2 bedroom place, that allows dogs.

Klahanie (planned development/neighborhood), Sammamish (a city, not a neighborhood)... there are several rental condos and apts within these areas. The commute from Snoqualmie won't be bad - but I don't know if they have rental apts out that way yet.

As far as I know, cheap is in the eyes of the beholder. The areas you are referring to are far from cheap IMO. One would have to be further out and that would mean an ugly commute. Sorry. Wish you good luck in finding something.

Jen mentioned Snoqualmie. I just saw a townhouse in Echo Ridge for reasonable rents and that allows pets while I was looking for something else.

1 bedroom for $1,075 and 2 bedroom for $1,275 which is very reasonable for the area and very convenient to Issaquah Highlands.

I'll DM you the link.

That is the price range he is expecting to pay. Maybe even up to $1400.
