Hi, I am coming from out of state to buy a vehicle. Do I have to pay sales tax in WA before I drive it home?

I believe you only have to pay sales tax (actually use tax) to the state it's licensed in - you would need proof you live out of Washington.

The dealer collects the sales tax when you buy it, if you buy from a private party it's collected when you change the title so you would not pay it to WA. You would be better off buying in Oregon where there is no sales tax. Here in WA it ranges from 8.5-10% depending on the city, Bellevue being among the highest.
