I like the relatively underused Jack Block Park in West Seattle, on Harbor Avenue. Not particularly big as far as long walks, but outstanding views of the Seattle skyline and the working waterfront, very quiet now that Terminal 5 is not active with container trucks.

I second Carkeek Park in North Seattle. It is somewhat of a secret, great trails through mature woods often with just a few people on them. It also has an excellent kids' playground area, a wide open play field for kicking a soccer ball or throwing a frisbee and a pedestrian overpass crossing the railroad tracks down to a very cool laid-back vibe family friendly beach (mixed rock, sand and driftwood). Plus, the open field is the public "home" of the one and only Bubbleman. If he can't make you smile, you are hopeless and no one can: www.Bubbleman.com

Jefferson Park. No yuppies there, well a little since Beacon Hill is no longer seen as the " ghetto" and some white people are moving in.

The Arboretum is great for wandering, magical pretty much anytime of year. Have you seen the ancient cedar trees at Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill. Kids love to play on them, better than any playground.
