Best time of the year is just beginning up there. All hiking areas in the mountains should be accessible; daytime temps moderating and nighttime temps getting just a bit cool. For the most part, precip is still on hold, but just enough occasionally. Tree colors will slowly start to change soon. Etc...

September is a glorious month. Bugs die off, still sunny, that nice golden light. Mountains are a blaze of red from the huckleberries.

Yes, and the vine maples are every color of green, yellow, orange and red. My favorite time of year, and usually very nice weather for the first 2-3 weeks of the month (sunny, not too hot).

I can't wait to take my dog out in the morning and not walk through 12 spider webs! Those damn things will literally make one web strand that spans every gap in foliage less than 15 feet across.

This has felt like an extremely long summer. It kicked off with a early and warm spring and has been so sunny we've had to water at times; there's been very little rain.

While I'm ready for fall, we are milking the remaining two weekends of summer by heading out to the Olympic Peninsula. I'm really looking forward to it. No agenda, just taking the Bainbridge ferry to Poulsbo, drive to Port Townsend, Hurricane Ridge, Ruby Beach etc. in a nice relaxing meandering way. We are very lucky to have such a bounty so close.

Yep - also not a summer person. I'm so happy when it starts to drizzle again and I can bring out the leggings, boots and sweaters. There's a fine line between 'sun-kissed' and 'melting', and I reach that line above 75 degrees.

However, as a hiker - Sept is one of the best months of the whole year. ALL the upper elevation trails are melted out, wide open, less crowded and almost no bugs. The berries and warm air smell amazing. Plus it's a bit cooler and you can get some very clear days for those never-ending views. It really doesn't start to rain significantly (generally) til Oct.

That sounds like a fun outing. One suggestion, if you haven't been, try a meal at the Dockside Grill at the John Wayne Marina, just before Sequim. Not cheap but worth the cost.

Thanks Hemlock! Will do, we're staying in Sequim for part of the time so that will be nice. Waiting for this day to be done <foot tapping>.
