Tegna has offered buyouts for many KING-TV anchors, and Dennis Bounds, Jean Enerson, and Jeff Renner have accepted according to tvspy.com. In addition, longtime reporter Linda Byran is also out.

This basically sweeps out half of the KING-5 main team, as Bounds and Renner were not expected to retire anytime soon. Enerson's deal is less clear, as she was in a very reduced role.

KING 5 is now a shell of what it once was. Their new studio at Safeco seems to have been done on the cheap, and this buyout cements a new, less expensive KING5, IMO.

Interesting to see that age discrimination is more all encompassing than just in my field (engineering).

Kick out the older folk, to bring on slicker, shiny faced newbie newscasters, to bring up ratings by appealing to the influx of newbie young Techies moving into the area, because those are the types that will plunk themselves in front of the TV at 6pm to watch the news. D'oh!

Many of us Old Timer Seattle-area folks will miss that crew, reporting with the depth of history and understanding of this area.

Experience? Who needs that?....

Agreed. KING has always won with experienced, known anchors and reporters. They perhaps do not value that anymore. Too bad.

It will be interesting to see who they replace these folks with. My guess is Mark Wright (morning anchor) will replace Bounds. As for Renner, not sure.

Me too. Jean Enerson's been on the air since I was eleven years old, and I'm old.

Ira, we apparently are about the same age. But I appreciate experience in this form of media. Nothing is worse than a young, pretty newscaster mispronouncing words or local names. Yep, I'm turning into an old codger too! GET OFF MY LAWN!

According to the Times this morning, they ere just offered a good deal to retire and took it. Also, the replacements will be made with diversity in mind. I don't think we'll ever know the real reasons for this, but it seems like a win for all.

Yep. She was young, but also an important hire by KING in the era, as they were making a statement about females entering the newsroom. She started as a lowly "call for action" intern, but became the 11:00 co-anchor in '71, the first female co-anchor in local news in the country.
