Hi all, seriously giving some thought to moving to Washington State/Seattle metro area by spring of 2017. I have lived in Denver for 20 some years and am originally from New England. While I like Colorado (mountains) I have really grown to dislike Denver proper. Guess I'm nuts since everyone wants live here. I'm a water person and like water, lakes or oceans/bays etc. which we do not have. Love to sail, hike, kayak and be on the water as much as possible. Currently own and keep a sailboat on a front range lake that I use in the summer months. Miss real trees, green, having a rainy day which we do not get in Denver only thunderstorm rains and plenty of severe weather. I'm not into snow, ice and cold below freezing any longer. I realize Seattle gets its share of cloudy/wet days in winter but that sounds more appealing to me. Single, just turned 50 and work in IT. I'm a coffee addict, reasonably outgoing and looking for a place where it could be fairly easy to meet new people and get a fresh start! Would I fit in there? I would want to live outside the city in a somewhat more affordable area not far from either light rail or the sounder commuter rail line. Seeking general feedback and or suggestions on good areas to live based on my situation. Not sure on job as yet, but may be working current job from home. When it comes to buying a home I would be in the 350- low 400s price range or up to low 2,000s for rent.

Thanks!

You'll find it difficult to meet people and make friends, but if you'll be keeping your boat at a marina, and if you join a hiking group (the Mountaineers is the main one) or some other activity/outdoor rec group, you'll meet people. Sailing is a really good way to start, IMO, and so is kayaking.

Central Edmonds. The Sounder north line goes through at rush hour (four per day, one direction) and you have direct access to Puget Sound. Nice little downtown. Ferry service outside your door.

If your $2,000 apartment can be smaller, live in central Ballard. Much closer to tech jobs via bus or even on foot (or slide a mile over to Fremont which has tons of them). You can walk to saltwater and fresh water, or the locks between.
