Hi Fellow Seattleite,

I would like to ride a train from King Street Station for a family trip with children. What is the best way to get there?

My first instinct was to drive there and park the car in a garage around the train station. But some of the garages looks really awful, and I know that's not the best neighborhood in the city. What would you do if you were me? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,

JJW

There can be problems with any of the parking lots and garages in Seattle, some are worse than others. Unless you have an older car that's popular with thieves, or leave articles of value in sight, the chances of having yours broken into at the King Street Garage are not that great. Still, with the price to park overnight ($40/night last time I checked) you are better off taking a cab, light rail or bus. It will likely be cheaper and your car can stay at home.

I have used Uber and taxis in the past. I agree that parking is an expensive and less-than-ideal option for a train trip from there.

It's really not worth it, just take a larger Uber or Lyft that will comfortably handle your family and luggage. You'll get there fast, relaxed and won't have to worry about the safety of your car.

Tukwila (south center), Amtrak/Sounder station has longer term parking. Edmonds, too. We take the bus to/from KingStation. Uber is inconvenient for us since the buses are frequent and choice of two routes.
