It's hard to believe that a great and innovative station like that came to an end, but the economics of listener-supported radio back then (and KRAB and the Bay Area's KPFA, which served as an incubator for KRAB) were very challenging. And KRAB started doing fund drives very reluctantly, only when pushed to the wall. They basically invented the public radio fund drive, that later stations around the US emulated and developed.

I wish rock stations would stick around longer. Funky Monkey was awesome back in the day.

Me too , my husband informed me on a recent trip out in the car that it had changed to country

Default More radio talk

Jack FM is too across the board for my taste. I don't want to hear music that's 40 years old. They played "Fox on the Run" about 10 days ago, and it made me cringe. That song came out when I was 12, 13 or 14 I can't remember which, but I sure in the hell don't want to hear it now. I've moved on with age and changed musical tastes, genres and everything.
There's really nothing I can hang with all day anymore like I used to with 98.9 or 103.7. Even 107.7 gets too wrapped up in metal or punk for me.

Help!! Desperately Seeking Solid Station for Seattle.

I don't really gravitate towards any AM or FM radio stations anymore. I just listen to my own tunes and occasionally take a listen to a radio station. Good AM talk radio seems ta be dying in the U.S. now, too. It's either false religion, politics, sports or money talk these days. The only one of those that's interesting is sports, and, I don't need to listen to dudes on the radio talking sports. At all.

Radio in general, talk or otherwise, is not much good anymore. Little talent on the air and the amount of commercials makes radio all but unlistenable.
