You could start with a hotel for a month or two. That would give you time. Places like the Mediterranean on Lower Queen Anne have monthly rates.

A decade ago, the Mediterranean was something like $50 a night...$1,500 at monthly rates.

If it's $2,500 per month today (wild guess), that's still not bad if it lets you find a better apartment situation.

You might suggest to your employer they start a program where they assign you a sponsor when moving from an overseas location. A sponsor could check into a lot of your questions and get them answered, as well as set you up with an address (PO Box) and maybe a list of apartments/houses to look at as soon as you arrive.
