That being said majority groups have a obligation to protect the smaller minority groups ie, black's, Immigrants, and Mexicans/Latinos to just name a few. The amount of racism and genocide this country has committed against these groups is just appalling so we as white people owe it to fix the wrongs of our past and make reparations to these groups of people and protect them going forward. Anyways rant over, I am exited to (very soon) be apart of this forward thinking progressive city. Also, I am only leaving New York because of the high rents and overcrowding, I understand that Seattle is getting more and more like that too but it's nothing compared to the east coast/NYC.
I assume when you say NYC you mean Manhattan? Rents in Seattle are no where near Manhattan prices. You can walk on the sidewalks here with no crowd issues like NY. But the homeless here are bold! Aggressive even. And they live in tents here and pitch up camp where ever they want. These minority's have very few rules.

REI recently sent out some sort of celebratory "pride" pamphlet highlighting outdoor enthusiasts that were full of Pride. Several made it a point to self-identify as Fat (as if that really needs a special call-out).

Or try this one out: "QTBIPOC: Huanca, Turkish + Chinese. Disabled indigenous futurist and ecophilosopher whose culturally rooted gender identity is Quariwarmi"

I have my own acronym for all this: WTH
Also intersex! There needs to be an "I"

I am gay but I have lost track of all the letters. At this point, I'm like "you do you - I don't need to know all the details".

Back to the original question - without a doubt Capitol Hill is the right spot for OP. I've been here 20+ years, he will fit right in.

It's not just Manhattan that is expensive. I lived in a dumpy apartment in Staten Island back in 2002 and the rent was more there back then than what I pay now here. I know I don't live in Seattle but it's crazy I was paying more for rent nearly 20 years ago than I do now out here. And my current apartment is so much nicer and has every amenity I could want. Also, utilities were more expensive, car insurance etc etc. And AC/heat is basically mandatory there. I don't even own an AC here and rarely if ever use the heat here. Also, I'd say the homeless in NYC are far more aggressive than here from my experience.

I doubt that. How much was your rent ON staten Island in 2002? ALL of NYC is expensive. I never said it wasn't. But Manhattan sets the bar to a totally different level. I never had any issues with NYC homeless people. Rarely saw them in the daylight.

Yes, I know Manhattan prices are much higher but to answer your question my rent was $1500 back then. Last apt I lived in out there in 2014 was $2000/mo + had to pay for all utilities. Right now I'm paying $1475

1500 is not a lot by today's standards. Staten Island people are in their own little world. The only reason they even got that much is because it is so close to Manhattan. Manhattan is the main pulse in NYC.

If we made reparations we'd go bankrupt.

Native Americans. Let's just start (and end) with them.
