Wow Seahawks, Bezos, Gates, and the late Paul Allen... those are not good examples, lots of Seahawks players only live in Seattle during the season, Gates is in and out, and Bezos lives in DC nowadays. Besides, guys like Bezos and Gates are total outliers as they’re so extremely rich they’re far, far above the so-called 1%.

Seattle doesn’t have “old money” or high society like the east coast or even parts of SoCal or Texas, small pockets of wealth don’t prove your point, Indianapolis, Des Moines IA, Minneapolis, etc. all will have that as well, but they’re not known as 1% hangouts either, just like Seattle.

Where did I mention Seahawks players? I mentioned the owner of the team, Paul Allen. Of course Bezos and Gates travel, but their primary homes are in Medina.

Not having high society is no big loss.

There are prominent families that have been here awhile, the Hayes, Walkinshaws, Benaroyas, Bullitts.

I'm not sure what your point is? That the very richest people don't spend a lot of time in Seattle? Ok. That Seattle is some backwater? Sure, I guess, if having old money is your number one criteria.

Just because people aren't known doesn't mean they are not "super wealthy". Yes Bill Gates lives in a suburb of Belleview call Medina. Who do you think his neighbors are? It's not Tone Loc! And what about his neighbors-neighbors? What about the whole section of Medina? What about Mercer Island? Ever take the rt90 bridge from Mercer Island to Bellevue? Next time you do check out all the yachts parked at all the mansions docks.

There's a ton of money here!! But people here are low key and don't flash it around like east coast cities. Because its just not that important to do so.

Absolutely correct. There is a ton of wealth in the Seattle area. But unlike LA or the northeast these multi billionaires have no desire to flaunt their wealth. It is one of the things that makes Seattle unique.

The idea that the 1% don't 'live' in the Seattle area is laughable.

The difference is that you don't know most of their names - folks that stay here live exclusive lifestyles, but have zero interest in the flash and attention that you'd get in NYC or LA. And of course many (most) of them have 2nd and 3rd homes in places like the Yellowstone Club in Montana, or Martis Camp in Lake Tahoe.

There is a reason that most of the neighborhoods they inhabit (Windemere, Denny-Blaine, Viretta Park, the Highlands, et al) are very difficult to navigate if you don't live there and not 'on the way' to anything.

Quiet wealth and generational wealth are both in this area in abundance. You're seeing 2nd-generation tech wealth already from the first Microsoft boom in the 90's, and you'll see another generational spike from the current Amazon boom a few years down the road.

I think those of who actually understand the Seattle area realize how much wealth there is. Again they don’t flaunt but it is indeed there.
