Most parks with water access (including greenlake) allow swimming if you want. A quick check at any county Park&Rec webpage will give you the details about the main points of access or any stipulations there might be.

I will say that most of the lakes in the major urban areas aren't the cleanest. Regardless of official warnings it's always best to examine the water and surrounding area first and decide if you feel safe or comfortable. Last I visited it it wasn't as much the algae or duck poo that was the issue as much as the human waste and discarded needles that informed me that it probably wasn't the best water.

Lake Washington has some great spots on the eastside like Chism Beach or Madrona Park across on the westside. Most are swim at your own risk, so not always staffed with lifeguards and the popular ones get crowded and rowdy when it's really hot or on the weekends. If you want to check any of the larger lakes I recommend driving or biking along the coastline during a slower day and checking out the many smaller parks and access points that won't be listed online!

Where was this? I've never seen human waste or needles at Alki, Denny-Blaine, Seward Beach, Madison Beach, Howell, Mt Baker Beach, or Martha Washington...
