Lake Sammamish State Park has two beaches with enclosed swimming areas and a fully renovated Bath House. Sunset Beach has was renovated in 2016; check out the newly contoured beach, the cool 'buried' bronze critters, and the ADA-accessible ramp. Playground and snack bar are easily accessible from the beaches.

From what I read below, if a Toxic Algae Warning is posted, you're not allowed to swim there, but you may still be able to swim at the two beaches where lifeguards are posted, since they "check these two beaches often to make sure there are not toxic algae at the beach."

https://kingcounty.gov/services/envi...xic-algae.aspx

I used to swim at beaches without life guards on Lake Washington many, many years ago.

Here in Sammamish we also have Pine Lake, a much smaller lake surrounded by residences but the City Park normally has a swimming area with lifeguards in summer. It was closed to swimming in 2021, due to Covid, but I haven't heard whether it's open this year.

I walk/run around Green Lake all the time and definitely see people swimming in the summer. I’ve lifted this from the Parks and Rec website. Basically (legally), you are allowed to swim is a lifeguard is present, sounds like there will be one on West Green Lake Beach.

“Beginning Saturday, June 25, the following beaches will be guarded daily from 12 P.M. -7 P.M. on weekdays, and 11 A.M. -7 P.M. on weekends.

Madison Beach, 1900 43rd Ave. E
Madrona Beach, 853 Lake Washington Blvd.
Magnuson Beach, park entrance at NE 65th and Sand Point Way NE
Mt. Baker Beach, 2301 Lake Washington Blvd. S
Pritchard Beach, 8400 55th Ave. S
West Green Lake Beach, 7312 W Green Lake Dr.

For me, I don’t know, Green Lake just feels a little to closed in and algaeish (is that an adjective?). I prefer Lake WA beaches.

Sad to see that Greenlake has a toxic algae problem. Abide by the signage, OP. If there are no signs about toxic algae, then you can swim there. I used to bike to Greenlake after work in the summers to swim there, when I lived in the northwest corner of the U District, a short bike ride away. I was taken aback by your question, thinking, "Why wouldn't it be legal", but when I looked it up, I saw the algae warning.

Matthews Beach on Lake Washington is nice, and rarely crowded.

We have family that live in Victoria.
Their local lake/pond named Elk Lake is constantly shutdown for swimming due to Geese poop.
I have seen that here too on our small lake/ponds.

If I saw a large amount of geese and all that they bring I would be very cautious of the water for us or our dogs regardless if there was posted signage or not.

Yeahhhh, from the standpoint of my own health, I am not swimming in any lakes in Seattle. They're all pretty urbanized.

If I really need to swim (not in a pool) then I'm gonna head up into the Cascades.

It depends on your situation. Green lake has lots of swimmers who swim clear across the lake. That is obviously different than using the beaches and the designated swimming/paddling areas. I wouldn’t expect a lifeguard to be needed or responsible for a cross Lake swimmer. Thus there would be no legal liability for that swimmer, to swim whether or not a lifeguard was present.

The algae restrictions, or any other water quality issues/advisories, would apply to everyone regardless of lifeguard presence or absence.
