I had yet another Seattle medical appointment in early a.m. yesterday & this time had to wait around till mid-afternoon. I wanted breakfast & a staff member suggested The Egg & Us on 14th St. in Ballard.

That place was a ray of sunshine on a otherwise dark day. The food was delicious, the surroundings clean & pleasant, the staff cheerful.& professional...loved it. I guess there is a 2nd location in Issaquah.

Thanks for this recommendation, OP! I love your description: "a ray of sunshine on an otherwise dark day". And all the rest of it. Sounds great! I'll try it next time I"m in town. And...I assume there was parking?

^^Right across the street so I could watch my vehicle & dog. This probably doesn't always happen, but I guess part of my day was golden.

My favorite spot for breakfast was CJ's in Belltown.
But that was pre-pandemic, and it looks like they're
out of business now.

Before the pandemic halted things, my local family and I set out to try a different breakfast place every weekend, ranging from Snohomish County down to Tacoma, the mountains to Bainbridge. We stopped at just under 50 places, a number of which we returned to several times, either out of preference or simple convenience. Sadly, some didn't survive the pandemic, or have not resumed full operations (probably the staff shortages that are so endemic in the industry) but most are still going.

For what it's worth, some faves:

Hudson Cafe on E. Marginal Way, Seattle
Bay Cafe at Fishermen's Terminal
Fat's Chicken and Waffles in the CD
Marination Ma Kai at Seacrest Park dock
La Cabana, N. Seattle
Salvadorean Bakery, White Center
Doc's Marina Grill, Bainbridge
Southern Kitchen, Tacoma
Voula's Offshore Cafe, Northlake Seattle
Chelan Cafe, under the West Seattle bridge road spaghetti

Valuable info, Gardyloo.... and now that we're almost halfway through 2023,
have you got any updates to add?

Btw, although I miss CJ's in Belltown, I've had some fine breakfasts at Roxy's Diner in Fremont.

We have enjoyed breakfast at the Egg & Us too, but more often ate at the one in Issaquah, until it burned to the ground a few years ago. They are just now starting to rebuild it, but they also own the 12th Street Cafe in Issaquah and we also enjoy eating there.

There are always more, some of which are long-standing faves...

Julia's in Wallingford

HK Dim Sum on Aurora (old K-mart plaza)

Foo Lam on MLK in Holly Park (dim sum - fab.)

Kona Kitchen on 5th NE (Maple Leaf) - terrific Hawaiian breakfasts

The Breakfast Club on Lake City Way. Basic "greasy spoon" with fantastic breakfasts. Note, lots of red ball caps present, if you get my meaning.

Five Point on Cedar (near Seattle Center) - classic dive bar, open 24h. Bring your own defibrillator.

Bluwater Bistro at Leschi. Great weekend brekkies with a water view.

And of course, Beth's on Aurora, now reopened. Cholesterol overdoses since 1954.

Thanks, Gardyloo!

On my visit last month, Five Point Diner was the only spot I could find
that opened before 8am on weekends... though surely there must be others.

And I don't get significance of red ballcaps.
