I'll leave the route to somebody else right now.

What I'd like to suggest is that you review each states' chain laws. Some states require vehicles above 10,000 GVW when towing to have chains in the vehicle whether they're required on the road or not. If you're pulled over for some other reason, they can check to see if you are carrying chains and if not, cite you for it. Some might even require you to carry chains on vehicles 10,000 GVW or above whether you're towing or not ...or whether you are a commercial vehicle or not.

For instance, a class A motorhome --a non-commercial vehicle-- is required to carry chains in the vehicle during the winter months whether they're needed or not going through some states.

Also, review other laws in the various states you'll be traveling through too. As an example, in California, the speed limit for ANY vehicle towing is 55 MPH --no exceptions. And believe me, it is quite vigorously enforced pertaining to non-commercial vehicles. CHIPS evidently enjoys pulling people over towing boats, travel trailers, and Uhaul-type trucks towing car trailers to cite them for violating the 55 MPH law.
