Well, that's a subject hotly debated here (one of many).

Most would say no, Tacoma isn't decent.

Magrack and some others would argue that for pages...

I guess it depends on what you are looking for, what your standards are, etc.

...but what are you planning on doing for work? I think that would be a big decider in where you choose...

Huh, here I thought you were looking at Vashon Island where you could row your boat across Puget Sound then carry it on your back to your office in the Columbia Tower and do the reverse at night.

What made you change your mind on that one?

Wow, I didn't know that I've been unreasonable all these years as I've been doing that commute for along time

Oh he's right, the Port Orchard commute is unreasonable

I just didn't like the tone that he used

But seriously, if you take the Southworth to Faunterleroy ferry, it's a 40 min ferry ride to west seattle, which is what 10 min longer than the Banbridge ferry.

Depends where you are working in Seattle, are you working or a retiree? Vashon and Southworth share the same ferry run.

When I was riding a motorcycle to work, it was 1 hour door to door from my house in Port Orchard to my work in Downtown Seattle. That's actually not bad. But depending if you are a walk on, the commute can easily be 2 - 2.5 hours each way and that is quite unreasonable.

Good luck in your search from long distance, until you get here it's really hard to actually "get" what a pain in the **** Seattle is as a place to commute and to get around in.

I chose Port Orchard as a place to live due to it's proximity to the Naval Base, Hospital and commissary and it's relative low cost of housing, both purchase price and rental.

If you commute to Downtown Seattle everyday, lower Bainbridge Island is a nice place, west Seattle is close, but to me it's kind of old and run down, but that opinion may vary on this board.

Good luck, prior to my move I was looking at a map of the area and everything looks so close on a map, but the traffic makes places alot further away than they actually are.

Naw, I gave up arguing it. I've basically said my piece about Tacoma. I'm not going to change the minds of the die hard "Seattle or nothing people".

There's too many of them and the uninformed basically have Seattle proper on their minds, so they won't pay attention anyway.

I found this board some time ago when I was researching AR. It had been a very long time since I lived here, and I wanted to see what people had to say about it.

As part of that, I also read the WA forum; I found so many half truths, untruths and conflicting opinions that I didn't recognize my own state.

Because of the nature of what I was reading concerning WA, I basically assumed anything that anyone said about AR was opinion and not fact, and did my research in a more traditional manner, including visits.

Once I moved here and got settled, I decided that I would attempt to contribute to the forum in a helpful manner.

Given my age and experiences, I've seen a lot of barnyard waste and I can avoid stepping in it most of the time. I attempted to spread less waste than others might have and pointed out the obvious piles to the unwary. Up to individuals where they want to step though.

The premise isn't bad, but anyone reading here needs to understand that everyone is looking at the same thing(s) through different eyes, motivations, financial situations and needs.

I've been providing a different set of eyes. I have no stake in WA anymore; my only interest was/is to help provide a service to those folks who genuinely are looking for more answers to information they already gathered, or to provoke more accurate research.

Tacoma can take care of itself; it doesn't need me to argue it's virtues or point out it's faults.

People will find it to be what they expect. If they expect it to be good, it will be, and if they expect horrors, they'll certainly find them.

Im 40, and starting over. It was a sound decision which I will benefit from in the future. I worked for United Airlines for 18 years, ever since 9/11 the airlines have taken a downward spiral. So I quit and went to school for a year for networking so I will be in the tech field. Ive been making an hour commute (one way) for most of my life so it kinda normal. Bainbridge is beautul from what I can see, yes I know its only pictures but from searching and talking online to natives I can paint a pretty good picture.Im not a kid so I can tell who speaks from the heart and who speaks from there head and those who are "just" talking. But doing research/homework is just part of relocating. One or two state move is one thing, but Im going clear across the country in pretty much a straight line so Im gonna be throwing alot of questions out there. Thank you for your patiance!

Many of the more active people on this forum haven't been residents for YEARS. I JUST MOVED from the area... and like many others, still have family and friends in the area.
