I recently landed a federal job located in Kent, WA. I am currently living in San Antonio, TX, never been to Seattle area, have no knowledge of the nice or 'ghetto' parts of town, and have no idea where to even start looking once I get there.

I am single, recent college graduate looking for a fairly nice/low-crime rate community. I am willing to dish out anywhere from $600-$1200 dollars for a 1-Bedroom apartment if the location and amenities are worth it.

My question: In your opinion, is Kent an area worth living in? Or is it worth taking a 15-20 minute drive from work every day to live somewhere else? What are "good" areas near Kent?

Location is everything,, so I want to start looking in the right places once I get there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

There are small parts of downtown Kent and small parts of the Kent East Hill that are a bit sketchy, but there's nothing especially dangerous about most of Kent. There are lots of good areas of Kent, including parts of downtown around Kent Station, the West Hill of Kent,Scenic Hill...If you feel you must live elsewhere, Renton's a quick bus ride away, and Des Moines has some very nice parts, on Puget Sound, and also pretty close.

Ira500 thank you so much for getting me started! I am especially glad I know which areas I want to be wary of. I will look some into the places you mentioned. Thanks again!
