Hello I just wanted some information on Seattle and the suburbs Kent and Renton. I was interested where the black community and Hispanic are. I've heard people say avoid South Seattle and the southern suburbs, but this isn't a concern to me because there's no way any part of Washington is as"rough" as South Dallas. Also, I've heard that there isn't a huge need for teachers, but is there a need for minority teachers, my wife is a Hispanic biology teacher and me African American poli sci. I'm not quit done with school so I'm not sure if I will teach elementary of secondary. Will either of us have problems finding jobs? Another question I have is, where is a good place to hang out and meet new people? My wife and I are and we love playing sports from softball to adult kickball, will there be a problem finding adult sports leagues? Finally, the must most important, food. Is the seafood in Seattle cheaper then In Denver or Dallas? Will the mexican food equal that of Denver? Will the BBQ compare to Texas? Thank you very much in advance!

Default Food

I cant comment on the rest of your questions but lol, I can on the food, being a transplant from Texas by way of Colorado.

Most of the BBQ is not even close to Texas BBQ. There is some that is quite tasty but its not Texas BBQ.

Mexican, actually you can get a lot of good Mexican food, and its closer to Colorado Mexican than it is Tex-Mex.

I can tell you when I visit my family in Texas, I always go out to eat BBQ and Mexican and when I go visit my family in Colorado I never even think about it.

Seafood will be just as pricey, maybe even more. But the quality will be far greater.

Happy Eating!

South Seattle is actually a good place to start as the housing prices are lower and it is far less crowded than the north and eastern parts of Seattle. It is also a quick hop to downtown and all major freeway access. It is ethnically rich and many new immigrants come to WA through South Seattle first. Therefore, there are resources like housing, food stamps, food banks, job centers and lots of ethnic, cheap and good restaurants. I've lived here for over 20 years and I have been happy here. I have lived in Texas, California, Tennessee, Kentucky, Germany, and many other places. I love Mexican and Asian food and have good spots to choose from in South Seattle. Kent is okay, I have lived there before, it's nice and green but crowded, lots of apartment complexes. Renton is not so good as the freeway access and getting around is difficult, it's crowded and does not have any character at all.

Just north of Renton, check out Skyway. Or you can go into Seattle in the Rainier Valley and areas between Skyway and Rainier Valley. Yes the housing prices around there are lower. As a real estate agent I be more than happy to show you what's there. In Kent the rough neighborhoods are in the south hills of Kent at around 104th Ave Se (Hwy 515), SE 256th and SE Kent-Kangley Rd (Hwy 516). Doesn't compare to South Dallas though.
