I get irriatated at all the thoughtless people blocking everything up around the grazing stations!
Including the other sample employees! Pet peeve, demonstrators (sample employees) going around to all the other stations eating their lunch. Of COURSE they don't get a regular small sample like the rest of the membership, they get the app size...
I've pretty much stopped touching those samples after watching several demonstrators feed their own faces, touching themselves (hair noses etc) while cutting up whatever it was they were pushing and not changing gloves or ever washing their hands.
I have not seen that here. The only solicitors I see are the one's hand out samples, but my kids and I like that! If I was you I'd complain to the manager about all the donations they are asking for. It also makes me uncomfortable when I'm asked about donations. I do donate to many charities, but typically not at a store because I never have cash on me as I always use my debit card.
I always shop in off hours and had no problems before but in the last month or so I feel soliciting in the store has become incessant. Not sure if it’s just our store or some corporate change.
Right next to the entrance there is always some guy who yells at every customer “Hello sir/mam, would you like to hear about...”. No one is ever interested. It feels like one of those mall kiosks where they just want to scam you by selling some overpriced cream.
And this week they started asking for donations for some hospital. OK but even after I politely refused the cashier kept telling me how great of a hospital that was, etc. Then I go to get a hot dog and, again, the cashier is asking about a donation.
Since we are literally paying to shop there, this seems a bit too much. I really just want to get in, get what I need and get out as quickly as possible. Do you have the same experience in your store or is it just ours?
There are frequently some sale actions but those folks are never intrusive and most are quite nice, actually.
Ask to talk to the manager of that Costco location and give him your honest feedback. I guarantee he will appreciate it - honest feedback is both rare and valuable.
Not once have I see anyone soliciting anything at the entrance of any Costco. The only "extra" people I have ever seen are Direct TV or Verizon people but they're at their little booth things.
Take your concerns to Costco management. It is likely that the aggressive behavior experienced in some locations is not what the company had in mind when they contracted with the offending vendors, and unless managers actually witness the behavior, they won't know it is annoying people. Tell them.
As for the aggressive behavior regarding donations at the cash register or other point of sale, again, tell management that the aggressive attempts to get shoppers to agree to donate is annoying and unacceptable. It might be due to encouragement by management, but if it isn't, they can't do anything about it if they don't know it is unwelcome to customers.
If you suspect that a store's management endorses any of the aggressive behavior, address your concerns to corporate management (easily identified on the company's corporate website with names, addresses, and sometimes email contact info). This goes for any company with many outlets. They can't fix something they don't know is happening.
It is unlikely that a large, established company is actively encouraging aggressive behavior by vendors working in their stores, so addressing the issue with the appropriate management will give them an opportunity to address the issue.
I shop at Sam's and they've got the same thing there, except the aggressive plus selling at the register is trying to get you to upgrade your membership.
We have fun with the cable tv salesmen...either we say we're Amish or we say all we watch is porn.
Costco gives me an anxiety attack But since I don't want to get divorced, I have to go there with my wife on occasion. We have a compromise: she only makes me go on weekdays when the crowds are down. I hate everything about it: impossible to find parking, ginormous carts that block the aisles combined with rude unmoving shoppers glued to their cell phones, difficulty finding items since none of the aisles are labeled (who finds things numerically?,) piles of ugly clothes as tall as my head, etc. . . And the germaphobe and me gets grossed out by those samples. And why the desperation to shop like it's the coming of the apocalypse anyway? Costco has some good deals, but a lot of their prices aren't that great, and you have to pay for a membership, which leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Do you stop your cart in the aisle and stuff your faces at each and every station? Yeah, that's grazing....just buy the stuff or not!
Grazers disgust me....99% have no intention of buying whatever the sample is, they just want free food.
It's not exactly free if I'm paying a membership fee to be there
Samples are definitely a perk of the Costco experience.
