I'm getting posts on FB about Honey. Does it really save you money? Anyone have any experience? I don't want to clutter up my devices with things that don't really work.

Snopes says it works as advertised.

As with all reward, loyalty, couponing, discount apps, though, I'd be highly suspicious of what's going on in the background, with your activity being tracked and reported and the iffy standards for apps staying out of your personal information.

No one creates/runs an app system like this because they're nice guys helping you to find good prices. There's a cost somewhere; you figure out if it's worth any savings it delivers that you could not have found on your own. It is, after all, not a discount provider of its own, only a specialized search tool.

Very good thoughts. I forgot about that "something for nothing" thing. What exactly are they getting out of this? Ads on the side?

I use Honey all the time. It's saved me a lot of money on Amazon and other sites.

1) Selling the search/buy data, including (most likely) more tracking of your activity than you're aware.
2) Directing buyers to whichever merchant pays the most.

I've never had the Honey app direct me to a different website. It always finds codes for the website I am on, the website I chose after price matching different sites. All it does is find additional discount codes that I may not have known about.

I just use the Honey browser extension, on a browser I rarely use, to find the best discount code when I'm checking out. It has saved me a lot of money. After I finish applying the best discount code, it asks me if I want to create an account. I always decline that part of it. I think you can also earn points too, but probably at an increase cost of privacy.

Okay. Shot in the dark about how these things work in general.
