Just came back from the store, another piece of evidence consumers are trading down from deli meat to canned tuna, spam, eggs and chicken.
This store has large swimming lobsters marked down from $16.99 to $8.99 .lb,dead ones are $6.99 a lb.
So lobster lovers, here is your big chance to feast on live lobsters.
(Someone told me once that dead lobster is not good to eat, once the lobster dies,it gives out a green gas and soon the meat turns soft and mushy)
they do sell dead lobsters,AND dead dungenese crabs,I think they just die.
I think if they boil them immediately after removing them, from the tank, they may be fine.
I saw some one buying several dead ones, for 2 more a lb,he could have the live ones
Good price for large live lobsters. Perfect size around 2 - 3 pounds.
Canners (typically 1 pound or less) are usually cheaper, and really large lobsters (4 pounds and up) are slightly discounted.
As for the dead lobsters, if they put them on ice right after they died they should be good for a few hrs. Risky though. You can usually tell by looking at how robust the shell is. Lobsters degrade quite quickly.
For $2 more I would just go for the live ones.
I haven't eaten lobster for over a decade. The prices are just too high to justify it. For cheaper I can dine on a nice AAA Porterhouse steak.
I would have bought one (live one) if I have not bought a large cat fish(skinned),cat fish is $3.95 /lb.
I have tried a dead lobster in the past,it is fine but I dont want to try again.
why dont they just cook it,people will feel better eating a cooked lobster.
