Mostly because of their arrogance and their attitude! I mean they're successful clubs and all but that image they create of themselves like they're Gods and all the rest are like little mice running scared of the big bad spanish predators... that's BS! They know that themselves and that's why they give tons of money away buying the best players, technically sucking the life out of other big teams just to feed their ego and make sure they're not losing important games, titles etc. For me that's the mafia in football! Big clubs DO NOT need Galacticos to win titles. They just play well and win. Simple as that.
I'm a newbie to football and I've read that people accuse them of being subsidized by the Spanish government and engaging in financial wrongdoings.
What financial wrongdoings are the two clubs engaged in? Please also provide some online evidence to support any claim(s).
They take about 50% of the money coming from TV rights to the Spanish League
and leave the other 18 teams in the league to share the other 50%.
Here's how the TV rights money is distributed in Europe's best leagues.
I'm sure you can tell why Barcelona and Madrid have no competition in the Spanish League.

Wow, what a great graphic on the disparity. What are the rules on allocation of funds, does Atletico get a greater share based on their performance last year?

Considering this, Atl. Madrid's performance last season was just heroic! I don't think performance directly influences the allocation of funds, it may eventually if a team like Atl. Madrid keeps doing a good job and attracting more TV audience.
When it comes to La Liga vs Premier League, I think they are more similar than different.
La Liga is a two-horse race: Barcelona & Real Madrid
Premier League is also the same: the two teams being Manchester United and whichever team happens to be bankrolled by a billionaire.
Uhmm, ok, maybe just not the previous season? Atl. Madrid is the current defending La Liga champions and United did so poorly last season. I also think there is a lot more competing at EPL, although teams like Sevilla, Villarreal, and Valencia are always somewhat competitive too.

Denying that La Liga is a two horse race is just foolish. Just look at the stats. R.Madrid and Barcelona have won 54 times in total. La Liga is incredibly imbalanced at the top of the table.
