Im hoping they come up with a creative name for the team like Philadelphia Bells or Liberty or Freedom instead of something dopey like FC Philadelphia. I wish Dallas had kept their name the Burn instead. I cant stand seeing an american soccer team calling themselves FC whatever. C'mon, get creative!

I can almost guarantee you that the Philadelphia club will be called "Philadelphia 1776".

That might be too close to the basketball team, the Philadelphia 76ers. But it would be a good name nonetheless. I think they should go with some kind of soccer name, maybe that includes "FC." I think too many of the early MLS names like "Galaxy" and "Metrostars" are cheesy makes the teams sound like they belong in arena football or something.

As much as I'd like to root for FC Dallas, I'm actually a little more for the Houston Dynamo. And, yes, I think they can three-peat this year!

Quite surprised there are no votes for David Beckham's team yet.
P.S. Did you set your clocks one hour forward?

I am a diehard Wizards fan. I have been attending games since their very first game and am a season ticketholder.

We just signed the second biggest name in the league, Claudio Lopez! This is going to be a fun season.

As soon as Seattle begins play they will be my favorite team. As it is the Sounders are my favorites, with FC Dallas a close second only because I lived in Dallas for many years and attended many matches at both stadiums(cotton bowl and Pizza Hut Park)

Also, I disagree with the member who said that names such as FC Dallas are "dopey"

I feel that the traditional "CITY NAME" "MASCOT" format is best saved for other sports. Soccer(Football) in the U.S. should attempt to align themselves more and more with the world scene with each passing year.

Names like FC Dallas, Real Salt Lake, DC United, etc... are not only more Football appropriate but distance themselves completly from the goofy Recreational soccer names like "The Wizards" or "The Mutiny" or the old Dallas "Burn"

I hope the Football Club name pattern continues. I only wish San Jose had chosen a new name this time around instead of reverting back to the old "Earthquakes" name that reeks of velveta.

Now I only hope Seattle will follow that trend and not go for some goofy, saturday morning rec league name.

Agree with the cheesy name thing...even though my time, the FIRE has one. Also, I live in North Carolina and I think an MLS team would do well in the Cary area. Soccer is big out that way...

I think it's even cheesier just to put FC after names because the european teams do it.

I mean.... if it isn't called football here why the FC? Why not put AC (whatever *** nonsense that stands for) if we're just gunna be posers about it.

Moderator cut: City Data also edits out explainations of racial slurs because that type of expression isn't acceptable here.
