Along with all the other great things going on, the push for a "mini Silicon Valley" in Charleston continues to grow, as BenefitFocus announced a new $60 million dollar investment in high tech jobs and a big expansion in Charleston, that will bring about 1200 new tech jobs. Along with Boeing buy HUGE lots of land around it's current site- about 3X the amount it now sits on- it appears huge growth in aerospace and tech jobs is coming for the area. You know....for all those who aren't "college dropouts working as a bartender" haha
Its big news for the state, and jobs that people statewide may be interested in. If only people in Charleston hear about it, it wouldn't help the whole state.

I mean you can say that about practically any economic development project, but it still belongs in the appropriate subforum unless the mods want to create a thread about economic development in SC in general.
And I'm pretty sure people have means to hearing about this development other than this forum.
You're right that they are a dime a dozen, but it's more important than you think to put a stake in the sand. Tech industry is browsing for the next "valley". We're probably 5-10 years from the Valley becoming a thing of the past.

Not sure why you are bringing Columbia into this, Columbia is doing fine. in fact, GDP is higher in Columbia. While it is a good announcement, fact is Charleston is a long way from becoming silicon valley or any derivative of it. If any city in the Carolina's will become a major tech player (if it hasn't already), it's Raleigh. Charleston does not have a major research university to support a large cluster of high tech and is way down the list of Carolina cities in terms of technology. And, as much as it pains folks in Charleston, it is a tourist/beach city. Lots of bartenders. Boeing will be the single largest project in SC but, it has to grow a lot to offset to other sectors of the economy.

I just mentioned Columbia as something I thought the OP was just posting this in the SC forum to get at Columbia folks. I didn't mean anything by it. Pay attention next time.
Also, numerous times people have told you to go back to the NC forum as you're not wanted here. Take the hint.
