I just bought a used car and it has tinted windows. It was already inspected and received the PA Inspection sticker. But the local police department pulled me over and gave me a citation. The police claim that the tint is too dark and to have it removed. How could it pass an annual PA Inspection? I don't see how a dealership can sell a car knowing that the tinted windows are illegal.

Maybe this should be in the PA forum.

Tinted windows are not a vehicle safety issue. Tinted windows are illegal because it's a danger to cops when they stop your car.

Every state has different laws on what tint they allow. But PA's tint laws are actually stricter than SC's laws. PA requires 70% or greater transmission (less than 30% tint) , SC requires 27% light transmission (less than 73% tint).

As Jim Mac has said, it may be the case that PA inspection doesn't inspect for tint. Or it could be that the car seller lied, and he had it tinted after it passed inspection without tint.

What is the difference between the back windows of an suv being tinted with a guy sitting in the back with a shotgun pointed at the cop and the front windows being tinted.

Dealerships sell cars all the time with things that are illegal. There isn't enforcement for it. It is the drivers responsibility.

You can have tinted windows, but they can only be so dark.

There is no difference. What's your point?

My point is that rear windows can be tinted, so why is the front windows being tinted a safety issue
