Physical attributes (from Wikipedia)

Armstrong has recorded an aerobic capacity of 83.8 mL/kg/min (VO2 max),[41][42] much higher than the average person (40–50), but lower than some other Tour De France winners, such as Miguel Indurain (88.0, although reports exist that Indurain tested at 92–94) and Greg LeMond (92.5).[43] At his peak, he had a resting heart rate of 32–34 beats per minute (bpm) with a maximum heart rate of 201 bpm.

I believe Lance could have won them all despite that his brother saying he had doped. Plus the fact that he was very smart in his strategy when racing.

He won the 7 medals, got tested 500 times and they never found a thing, until proven otherwise i'll take the man at his word and continue to think of him as an American hero..

Some folks probably still believe in the Easter Bunny. Here's a good little article:

Being OK as a fraud

"If you believe there is an infinitesimal chance that Armstrong could captain a cycling team that incorporated systematic doping for most of a decade, never take a needle himself, and for seven years bike faster than all of his dope-aided teammates, go ahead and believe that too."

The 500 test thing is a bogus number that Lance and his PR team has put out, but never offered any substantiation. He was an elite athlete for 10 years, that's 1 test a week. They only test several times during a long tour and during the off season. Even if he was the most tested cyclist of all time and they tested him double or triple the average, he still wouldn't come close to the 500 test mark.

One of the things Lance pioneered was constantly monitoring his blood while training, supposedly for vitamin deficiencies, but that is also how elite cyclists check if their doping regime is below the testing triggers (i.e. 50% hemocrit for EPO). The most aggressive doping testers were the East Germans who screened their athletes relentlessly before they left for competition to pull athletes that got their mix wrong. So when Lance says he's been tested 500 times, is he talking about his own screening to make sure there are no signs of EPO or testosterone (otherwise he'd pull out of a race for an injury)?

Good points, Slim04. People who know cycling have calculated a much lower number than what Lance claims:

The Legend of the 500

Also, USADA requested that Armstrong backup his claim, but Armstrong's attorneys have refused.

Amazing how some without a shred of evidence would so readily trash one of their own American heros, (Allow me a little sarcastic indulgence),= with that logic all American victors in any event are all frauds and their accomplishments the result of performance enhancing drugs, no sense denying it we wont believe you,we cant possibly be that good.
How about that swimming phenom for example ? Mike Phelps? 22 lifetime Olympic medals? impossible he's on drugs,no doubt about it,you cant possibly be that good with out drugs,
And other Olympic events, 46 gold medals for the USA in the past Olympics? cheating at its finest, performance enhancing drugs run rampant,America cant possibly be so good that they could win that many medals without the drugs..(End sarcasm)
If you really want to know who's got the biggest knot in their knickers about Armstrong Look to the powers that be over in Europe who just never got over our American boy going over to Europe and handing them their ass on a plate 7 times on what supposedly was their sport..

The 2nd runner up had a good one liner: I'm aware of my finishing position, 2nd place and don't look to re-write history books"

I will always think of Lance as the 7 time winner, doping or not. This thing got carried away and don't think anyone else would think less of him for saying "enough is enough!"
not really, what "better" person to get cancer than someone who's in supreme shape, an athlete. (drugs or no drugs)

he was and is also very rich with access to the best medical care, doctors, medicines, procedures, ... anything he could want. ever wonder why ex-presidents, and many celebs can often live so long, they have the best medical care, full body scans, imaging of the heart to pre-screen for any problems, whatever they want that most mortals don't have.

there are different cancers, different cure and success rates, and different stages , 1, 2, 3 4.

some cyclists even said that the chemo gave him an advantage (after all was said and done) precisely b/c it got rid of any extra weight.

"cancer survivor" and "cancer" are loaded words with emotional attachments that many people can relate to but IMO it's a little more complicated than that.

The answer to the incessant bickering over biking (or any other sport) would be to allow blood doping in all of them.

I personally think that if there was doping, then there were surely others doing the same thing.

I will continue to think of Lance as a heroic figure.

Default Armstrong not a champion; he's a cheater

I think Armstrong cheated and I discard his achievements. If a man is truly innocent, when wrongly accused, he fights. With the truth on his side, he has plenty to fight with. His parents, family, and close friends all matter. If he has kids, he fights harder. If he is idolized by millions, including kids, he fights harder.

If Armstrong were truly innocent of these charges, and not one person can come forth and claim otherwise, he should've fought it. But he DID cheat, and further evidence in the form of the many people who know he cheated, was imminent. IMO, Armstong is not worthy of the title "champion." He's a disgrace like Ben Johnson, Marion Jones, and any other athlete who cheated.

He does not get the benefit of the doubt here. His admission that he no longer wants to fight, is a blatant admission that the claims against him have merit, and that those claims are closer to the truth than Armstrong's claim that he is innocent.

He's been fighting these baseless allegations for most of his post racing career, trying to defend himself from people with your insatiable attitude that he must be guilty, its kinda like a form of birtherism whereby no matter what he says some will never believe him they've made up their mind and thats it.Its odd that other athletes caught doping are immediately suspended but in Lance's case its a situation that drags on for 12 years now? he says he rode clean and the authorities have no evidence to prove otherwise, For Lance he is thoroughly into making his life about getting donations for cancer and the biking part of his life is in the past if some petty poor losers want to continue their witch hunt they can do it without Lance as The retention of those medals are not worth the bother. .
