Millions will be watching college football tonight. A fraction of that tune in for the US Open finals.

Tennis isn't an overly popular sport in America. Might even be beneath golf.

U.S. Open ratings see decline, especially for men's final | TENNIS.com

Record-Low Ratings For U.S. Open Finals — Sports Media Watch

Wonder if that know-nothing trashing American football can explain why he said football was dwindling as a sport when tennis doesn't appear to be making a dent in viewership.

Nadal and Federer are a lot bigger than tennis.
And NBA/NFL have short seasons when you compare them to tennis (tennis only takes a break in December).

One player who appears to be slipping quietly under the radar, is Juan Martin Del Potro.
Delpo with all his injuries, is probably not regarded as a genuine contender anymore, just a big hitter and a dangerous floater who can take out any of the seeds early on, but not go on with the job.
Now he is in the 2nd week, he could continue to do some real damage from here.
Not saying he can replicate his brutal 2009 hard hitting run, but who knows.

I agree about DelPotro. He could be a sleeper. Although, generally, I don't watch his matches. He bores me. That slow saunter between points.

Finally, Rafa found his game tonight - after 14 bp. Geez.

I've enjoyed watching Dolgopolav the few times I've seen him. He's a scratchy player, though. Has some kind of inherited blood/liver disorder that saps his energy. Otherwise, he'd be right up there in the rankings. The match between him and Rafa should be fun to watch. Dolgopolav has beaten Rafa twice. Pulling for Rafa to get through, of course.

Yeah Dolgopolav beat Nadal in 2 very thrilling matches-
2015 Queens: 63 67 64
2014 Indian Wells: 63 36 76
Nadal has beaten Dolgopolav in straight sets, 6 times, including 4 times on hardcourt.

A feelgood story on the women's side, with Petra Kvitova getting past title favorite Garbine Muguruza:

Petra suffered injuries to her left hand and wrist after being stabbed during a home invasion early in the year, so this is a big comeback win.

So many three-set matches on the ladies' side yesterday. It's a really interesting field with a lot of comeback/Cinderella stories though.

Rafa having no trouble with Dolgopolov. I certainly hope this:

Alexander Dolgopolov match investigated amid allegations of match-fixing

isn't a factor in his inconsistent results over the years. His response to these accusations has been profane anger.
