What is considered to be Jewish Food ?
Just the ones that was *approved*, or is there some really typical stuff ?

I am not so sure if a *bagel* is really *Jewish*, if it was *not Approved* ?

Well for starters a good competent kosher corned beef on good rye bread would work. Then there's brisket, potato latka's, and if you're old enough to remember, a chocolate phosphate. Matzoh ball soup, Kreplach, Challah bread for the Sabbath produced on Friday's. All the good stuff. Once you've been to a good Jewish deli you'll know. Unfortunately the closest one is LA and Denver. we're in the land of the REAL Goyim (Gentiles).

I had a lot of Jewish friends as a teenager in Europe. Do not remember Chocolate phosphate.

BTW, I spent a lot of time at their homes, then, and never found that they had *different foods* then what I had at home. Maybe my Mom made a lot of Jewish (type) food ..... ???

I remember *knaidel*, and I think it is the same as Matzah. Whoa, that was a long time ago ... !

Yup, Knaidel is just another word for the matzoh balls used in the soup. The chocolate phosphate originated in NYC. It made it's way to Chicago by the 30's. It is basically seltzer water with a quality chocolate syrup. I can still get on in Chicago at a deli near where I grew up. They also still have them at the Katz or Carnegie Deli in NYC. Good stuff. The term "Jewish Food" is actually likely more similar to the typical Eastern European foods brought over by the immigrants at the turn of the century circa 1890's-1920's. My grandmother being Hungarian made Goulosh and chicken paprikosh and such. I had Ukrainian aunts that made some wicked chopped liver and Challah breads. The older generation always made it all from scratch, not like now. However if one were to go to a good old deli like Katz Deli or the Carnegie Deli (both in NYC) it would be pretty darned close. Having been there I can say their corned beef is like NOTHING anywhere else. Oh well.......I can dream...

If you go around the country it is more commonly referred to as an "Egg Cream". I was born in Queens and my parents are from the Bronx and I have lived most of my life in Long Island.I have gone on ebay and ordered Halvah when I was away.Ebay is a wonderful thing and you'd be surprised what you can order there.You can also do searches and see who will ship out.I don't know if Katz or Carnegie ship across the country but you never know.Why not give it a shot. Also try doing google searches for jewish delis.Also there is a company Schwans that puts out various things(not a deli) like hot dogs that taste just like Sabrett hot dogs from the pushcarts.When I buy Sabrett's from the supermarkets they don't taste the same but Schwanns taste exact.
