Hipsters are just this generation's grunge scene. Most of them will grow out of it eventually. Those that never grew into it but just dressed like that because that's what everyone else was doing will be likewise.

No. The grunge / punk scene actually made cultural contributions. Hipsters only contribute a bad attitude

^^ Except for the gentrification of untold city neighborhoods as previously mentioned by me.

Thought this was interseting

loved this comment: ...
The guy on the left is holding an iPhone because that's what other hipsters do. He's wearing odd clothing because that's what other hipsters do. He's wearing glasses because that's what other hipsters do.

The guy on the right is holding an iPhone because he has a love for technology. He's wearing a geeky T-shirt because he loves Star Trek. He's wearing glasses because he can't see.

That's the difference between the two groups. Geeks do what they do because its what they love (or need) to do. The aesthetic is a byproduct of that. The hipster artificially manufactures the aesthetic for the sake of the aesthetic. Its inorganic, and thus reviled...

That was an excellent read that points more to the condecending attitude of the hipster bashing. I will be the first to admit that it is annoying to see someone try pathetically hard to fit into a stereotype. But assuming I don't know them how do I know that's what they are doing and not just what they actually like? And if they happen to like things that are stereotypically "hipster", who am I to judge them for their interests?

Many of my interests overlap with so called hipster things. And if some random stranger thinks I'm some sort of conformist hipster because I'm a liberal who live in the city, likes indie rock, and rides bikes then so be it.

While we're on the subject of bashing stereotypes, why do I never hear anyone complaining about the Ed Hardy/Tapout/UFC t-shirt wearing juiceheads? They are so out of control that I know of several bars that will not let people in wearing those shirts.

Ugh! they're soooo much worse than hipsters. It really is the jersey shore crowd. I've had a lot of intelligent coversations with so-called hipsters, not so much with the Ed Hardy douches. Those guys contribute nothing (except for the recent uptick in bronzer sales I suppose!)
