Does anybody happen to know if the Missouri Driving School (Welcome to the Missouri Driving School) accepts adult students in Illinois? I live in southern IL but I'm not sure. I called them today but kept getting a machine. According to their website, though I was calling during normal hours...kinda odd!

Anyone here ever used the MO Driving school? If so, how did you do? I'm an adult learner...

^It's looks to be a private company, so I can't imagine why they wouldn't accept Illinois residents.

Maybe they're taking a long holiday vacation this week? (I wish I was!)

Oh. That may be it.

I didn't realize they were a private company. Is there a public alternative (in MO or IL)?

I'm somewhat familiar with the IL system. Basically, there are commercial (private) driving schools and courses held in public schools. I know some community colleges offer courses related to driving trucks, but I'm not sure you'll be able to find a typical 'drivers ed' course that isn't private.

BTW, if you're an adult, you don't technically need to take a course to get your driver's license. I'm sure you could find a book so you can pass the written exam to get a permit, and then have a nice, responsible friend teach you if $$ is an issue.

I already have a permit (from another state), which I got two years ago. I moved here a week and a half ago. I don't know anybody in IL except one person, and she drives a military vehicle so I can't drive that without getting in big trouble. :P That's why I want to take some lessons before I take my actual test.

If having a car to practice is your only problem get your friend to hire a car for a day or two. It took me 2 hours to learn to drive when I started out so its got to be much cheaper than a school. i believe most schools charge around $50 per hour or something like that.

You can hire one from enterprise or avis or many others. Are you new to the US?

Kids learn to drive at 16 here and most people know where to hire a car. Its kind of tough to arrive here without many acquaintances though
