I posted here a while ago about me moving to St. Louis with my boyfriend. Initially the area he was looking it was Hazelwood East, but now he's looking in Blackjack. Does anyone know anything about that area?

I don't venture up towards Black Jack all that often. I've played golf up there a few times, and used to visit a barber up there from high school through my college years (Good barbers can be hard to find). The area is mostly working middle class, I don't think you'll have to worry to much of violent crimes, property crimes might happen some though. It's a fairly small municipality with regards to size of other St. Louis County municipalities, you'll be about 20-25 minutes by road to St. Louis City / Downtown and a few minutes further from the Southside of St. Louis.

I wouldn't say Blackjack is the most desirable of North County Neighborhoods, but I don't think you'd have to run away from it either. What in particular are you wondering about with regards to the area, what gives you concern? Have you visited St. Louis yet? Has your boyfriend?

As Glam suggested in another thread, I'd recommend Florissant, specifically old town if you can find something in your price range (it's a small area) but it has a very cool feel to the area. As a "north county" guy, I typically recommend the western edges of North County, as opposed to the areas straight North of the City...but that has much to do with access to other parts of the county and city, as they tend to be a bit more centrally located.

My boyfriend lives in St. Louis currently. I'm going to be heading up there soon. I was concerned about how quiet and safe the area is. Thanks for responding.

City-Data has some decent demographic information, regarding everything from racial/ethnic makeup of the city to educational attainments, etc...they do not provide crime stats for Black Jack though (at least I didn't see it on the site...you might have some luck if they're reported by checking Wikipedia, or even the STL county crime map). I'm sure quiet can depend on what street you live on, or how close you are to a main thoroughfare. The area is likely pretty safe, maybe not as safe as Western St. Louis County, but is likely on par with other areas immediately surrounding the city of Black Jack.
