Tacky. The old mansions in the CWE are so much classier.

Oh please Dawn, you could fit one of the mansions from the CWE into the great hall of that first home. LoL. I absolutely love the old mansions in the CWE, or even the generously large homes built throughout much of the city, but they simply don't compare in opulence to many of these homes. And there's nothing "tacky" about a French chateau...that form of architecture is gorgeous, but unfortunately popular amongst those who can afford it...almost watering it down some.

I can't really imagine having a home of that scale, only because I can't imagine using it...I could dream of hosting a few parties, but I couldn't invite enough people to fill it. It'd be like Bruce Wayne in the first Tim Burton Batman "I don't know if I've ever been in this room before?"

Cool little video though...was there any point to this other than showing we have some rather wealth people here in St. Louis?

PS, I do love a couple of those homes on Warson Rd. I remember showing them to a friend of mine at work, who commented that they're "criminal" to have a home so large...if they're anything like the US Fidelis folks...it's quite possible that their activities were criminal...but the homes, lol...those are "mighty fine".

I like the mansions in Ladue. Just because they're new, doesn't mean they're tacky. Here's a few that I took pics of

^this one's the largest in Ladue, I believe. 30,000 sq ft. You can't really see most of the house though.

I actually met the man who owns this one. He was outside selling pumpkins with his grandkids. Very nice man.

Although the ones posted on that blog are still far larger, there are quite a few CWE homes in the 12k square foot range.
Coldwell Banker Gundaker -- Your site for St. Louis Real Estate

I'd be pretty set in the 6-8,000 square foot range. Anything else would just be overkill :P

LOL, these folks have 12,000 sf garages...i mean, carriage homes.

PS - The link you provided Arag...gorgeous home The decor in the bedrooms is pretty questionable...but if I had the $$...i'd be in there in a heartbeat.

PSS - I thought the first home mentioned at the top was interesting...I'd be curious to see how well the radiant wall heat works in that monstrosity.

Okay maybe not tacky, just conspicuous. I've always preferred understated to over-the-top. The one on the bottom there is pretty nice.

I live about a mile from all those houses on Warson Rd...our out-of-town family gets a kick out of driving down Warson to get to our house, since you go from multi-million dollar homes on one side of Old Warson Rd, to 3bd/1bath ranches on the other side. My husband likes to joke that we live in the servant's quarters.

The last house Smtchll posted is my favorite one on Warson, too.

Maybe...however you don't build a MANSION to blend in...The guy in the first video had something like 14 bed rooms, lol...and his most common guest (besides those who fly in for business related stays) will be his nine-year-old granddaughter. LoL...Hopefully she'll have numerous bedrooms in the mansion so she doesn't have to use the same bed more than once.

I think what's equally important isn't how well the home shows off your personal flavor (they're typically independently designed anyway) but who you show it off too. The "buildoff" on Warson exemplifies this, you don't care if common joe knows you have a huge home...the common man would be overwhelmed by any of these homes...it's doing up your over the top neighbors...I personally enjoy the guy off Warson who has a Chevy Bowtie swimming pool in his backyard, I hope he owns a few dealerships, if not, it's free advertisement for Chevy, visible from space (or an airplane flying overhead...eitherway).

According to google historical images, the bow-tie has been around since at least the mid 90's, so there's no keeping up there...but someone needs to do a lap pool with the Audi rings Think I'd get dizzy doing that.
