Can someone suggest a great place to stay for 2 Australians doing the Mississippi Road Trip from source to mouth? Something budget minded, clean, with lots of atmosphere, and parking?

I've never actually heard of anyone doing that trip, but it sounds like it would be a lot of fun! Are you looking for something in the city to really get a feel for the vibe?
