Off hand, I would say that Richmond Heights school district <> Clayton. The landlords know what they are doing. There is, according to empricial data, a large fall off in the districts when it comes to high school performance.

If that listing truly is Clayton SD, great deal. Downside is probably location right across from hospital (this means sirens all hours of the day, probably).

From the Clayton boundaries map it appears to be right on the edge of Clayton schools, but I would confirm to be sure:

Even if it does turn out to be Richmond Heights (which would sure make that landlord one lying liar who lies), I wouldn't immediately discount the schools; I'd just be sure to dig a little deeper into the particular elementary school your little one would go to.

Other than that I see no reason for major concern -- looks like a good price in a stellar location. You'll have to let us know how it turns out!

Thanks much! The listing says Clayton schools, but I will call the SD to verify. There are actually 2 of these units in the same building that are available and it seems they've been open for a while. That always makes me wonder if there really is such a thing as a good deal. On the other hand, my first house was in a flight path about a mile from the airport, and after a few weeks we didn't even hear the planes (and the price was excellent!!). I will update once I call the SD. Thanks for the input.

Per my research, that listing is indeed in Clayton, by a whisker, checked the county assessor parcel lines. You'd better not hesitate, or else I might beat you to it!! That's a great find, by the way.

Given all that the OP is looking for, Brentwood would be a good bet. It's a very walkable neighborhood that is convenient to 2 metrolink stops, very close to highway 40 and 170, has great schools, and is generally friendly to renters who have dogs. It's also very close to the places already mentioned, but w/o the disadvantages. It is a very small community though and the schools aren't big enough to support programs like orchestra.

I would not send my kids to school in U City schools unless they are still of elementary age--I have worked in the middle school and thought the students were treated very disrespectfully.

^Well their one kid in school is in elementary school. If they were looking to buy, I think the concerns about U City schools are valid, but I would have essentially zero problem sending my kid to Flynn Park with all the other middle and upper middle class folks if they found an apartment they liked there.
