I'm making a cross country trip and will probably go through St. Louis. Assuming it's a weekday, what are the commuting times that I should avoid going through on I-64 (traveling west)?

Thanks.

^Have you bothered to not be rude, ever? I'll tell you from experience the traffic data is often wildly wrong on Google.

To the OP, morning will be fine though certainly a touch busy. Evening rush would be the only time to really avoid -- I haven't made that drive daily since the rebuild so I can't say for sure what those eaxct times would be, but, you know, general rush hour times.

edit: Also, if you have a smartphone, I love Waze. Their traffic data (and reports of cops and stalled vehicles) is based on live users and is, from all I've seen, much better than Google at calculating accurate arrival times. Plus you get points and stuff which makes it a little competitive which is right up my alley lol.

Rush hour is fairly short in STL; I'd say avoid 4:30-6:30ish to be safe....traffic isn't too terrible, things just back up Kingshighway - Clayton/Skinker, and then again around 270. It still moves though, might set you back around 10 mins.

From my past two years experience of driving westbound from Hanley exit through I-64, I'd say beginning 4 pm it starts getting heavy (just a little slowdown) especially as you near Ballas exit and as Billiken said around 270. Not familiar with morning rush hour, though.

Wildly wrong... are you sure about that? Not slightly wrong, but wildly... and often. Seriously stretching it there.

Well, since you don't even live in St Louis and I do. I can tell you that traffic on 64 is wildly right on Google.

If you travel through during the evening rush:
Stay in the far left lane and you will bypass most traffic until you get to I-270. At that point, you might want to move to the right 2 lanes, since that seems to be the lightest lane in that spot. You will have an unavoidable backup for 2 miles until you hit the mason ramp.
This is only 2 miles total, and odds are good that traffic will still be moving 40 mph in that area. After that you should have a smooth ride.
Oh, and I recommend listening to 1120 AM KMOX for traffic reports on the 10 minutes.

The point is the OP would have no idea if it's "wildly right" as you say it is for 40 or if it's completely wrong as it often is in the other two major Midwestern cities in which I've recently lived, Chicago and Kansas City. KC's is so completely off (probably because Scout is no good) as to be essentially useless.

If you have no desire to be in anyway helpful, useful, or even friendly on this forum, FFS why are you here? Mom's basement gettin kinda dull?
