Hi all -

Does anyone have any experience with apartment complexes in downtown St. Louis? I'd like to give living down there a try, but the lofts are pretty much out of my price range. Gentry's Landing looks like it might be a good fit, but I was wondering if anyone has experience living there or in that area, and what I can expect as a single female.

I wouldn't have many concerns with safety, but Gentry's Landing definitely isn't my favorite of places -- the crowd is a bit transient and the neighborhood is probably going to feel empty at night.

For the same money FWIW I'd get myself a cute vintage place in Soulard, the Loop or Tower Grove South.

But all in all, you could surely do worse, so if it makes sense for you, then I have no reservations for you.

ellyr,

I lived downtown near the stadium about 5 years ago and never had any problems. I really loved my building, but if I could do it over again, I would have lived closer to Washington Avenue. Unfortunately, there just aren't that many bars/restaurants/things to do within short walking distance of the stadium, which kind of defeated my purpose of living downtown. Most of the action is near Washington Avenue.

Anyway, as a young, single female living alone, I never had any issues whatsoever. There do tend to be a lot of bums lingering around downtown, but from my experiences, they're harmless and generally friendly. I'd agree that Gentry's Landing isn't my favorite place in downtown for the reasons aragx6 stated above. I'm not sure if you're new to St. Louis or not, but if you're unfamiliar with the area, you might want to check out Soulard and the Tower Grove area. You tend to get a little more "bang for your buck," in my opinion, and there's more of a neighborhood feel than downtown, I think.
