Hello All:

In about 4 years, we'll be moving out of Wichita (yeah!) and are considering moving to St. Louis. I have spent most of my life in Europe and like that style of living (i.e. restaurants, theatres, cafes, museums, ease of walking to grocery stores, etc, park(s),). I have been reviewing some of the threads and wanted some opinions on neighbourhoods that might suit us...we will be in our 50s (active and busy!). We most likely will have a dog, German Shepherd, though a condo, townhome, apartment w/a patio/balcony would be good as long as it is near a park(s). We'll need 2-3 bedrooms, 1 1/2-2 baths. I've always been partial to downtowns, though a lot of American downtowns are primarily business districts. What would be the best neighbourhoods to consider given our preferences? We want to come out in a few months and stay in the downtown (or so area) and experience some neighbourhoods for ourselves and I would like to be a bit prepared.

Any suggestions are most appreciated.

I think that the Central West End would be a good fit for you. It's not the city center, but it has easy access to it. The CWE is vibrant and filled with people and its very walkable with shops and restaurants close together. You'll also be close to Forest park, which is without a doubt one of the best urban parks in America. In fact I'd go so far to say that Forest Park is one of my favorite places on Earth.

I concur with aragx6.....Soulard might not be a bad area to consider either.

I agree with the above. If you want to look at some pictures of these areas check out Urban St. Louis - View Forum - Photography - Showcase St. Louis
