Is there a large homeschool community in the St.Louis area? If so what homeschool resources are available to families?

I've seen good size groups of homeschoolers on field trips at some of the local parks, so I'd say yes there are a lot

Check out this blog: Mamalogues®

She's a local mom, DJ, and home schools. She may be a good resource for you. She writes about her sons' activities quite regularly. I believe she is on Twitter too...

There are two large groups, one is Christian based the other is secular. They do a lot of Co-op classes and activities together. The South City Y offers swim and gymnastics classes during the day for homeschoolers and various open swim times.

Somebody explain this too me. Most of the parents that I know that home school their kids seem dumber than bricks (and some of these people are very good friends). Yet somehow their home-schooled kids are among the smartest, well adjusted and polite kids I have ever meet.

All a kid needs to be smart is intellectual curiosity. I suppose being home schooled gives them more time to pursue things that interest them rather than things they are forced to learn.
