DANISH COMPANY TO ACQUIRE SYRACUSE ENGINEERING FIRM OBG

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A Danish engineering firm announced it has agreed to acquire Syracuse–based OBG, making it part of a new business unit covering the Americas.

The deal takes effect Jan. 1, the Ramboll Group said in a Monday news release.

OBG, previously known as O’Brien & Gere, is based in the Washington Station building at 333 W. Washington St. in Syracuse’s Armory Square.

Ramboll, headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, didn’t disclose the acquisition price or any other terms of the deal. It did say that OBG investors overwhelmingly approved of the sale with more than 91 percent of OBG shares cast in favor of the deal.

With the new acquisition doubling its size in the U.S., Ramboll is establishing a new business unit for the Americas covering the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Brazil with services in water, energy, environment and health. Jim Fox, CEO of OBG, will lead the new business unit as managing director, beginning Jan. 1.

In the deal, the Ramboll Group adds 900 employees within water, energy, environment, and advanced-manufacturing services.

With the acquisition, Ramboll now has 2,000 employees in the U.S. and 15,000 globally. Ramboll hopes the new business unit will grow from the current 2,000 employees to between 3,000 and 4,000 U.S. employees in four to five years.

At the time of the acquisition, the combined revenue of Ramboll and OBG will be $2 billion, the Danish firm said.

Besides its Syracuse headquarters, OBG has New York state offices in Clay, Binghamton, Albany, Rochester, Utica, Lindenhurst, White Plains, and New York City, according to its website. Besides New York, OBG also has offices in 10 additional states.

Reaction to deal

The acquisition of OBG is an “exciting step forward in Ramboll’s strategic ambition to grow in the U.S. and strengthen” its portfolio within water, energy and environmental services, “making Ramboll a multidisciplinary player in the U.S.,” the firm contends.

“We are very excited to be welcoming OBG’s 900 experts to Ramboll,” Jens-Peter Saul, Group CEO, said in the release. “Growing in North America has been a strategic priority for us since we established our U.S. presence in 2014 with the successful acquisition of [Arlington, Virginia–based] ENVIRON.”

With OBG, Saul contends Ramboll can build on the platform it has developed in the U.S. OBG’s Fox says the deal provides OBG the opportunity to broaden its customer base across the U.S. and globally.

“We see joining forces with Ramboll as a tremendous opportunity to widen our client base in the U.S. as well as extend our client relationships globally,” Fox said in the release.

SRC LAUNCHES NEW CANADIAN COMPANY

CICERO, N.Y. — SRC, Inc. announced it has launched SRC Can Ltd., a new company in Ottawa, Ontario that works to solve problems that Canada is having in electronic warfare (EW).

SRC Can combines SRC, Inc.’s “more than 40 years of experience in EW” with a Canadian team of EW experts to provide capabilities for the country’s “toughest EW challenges,” SRC said in a news release. The company will focus on capabilities for mission intelligence and engineering services, along with the development of threat-simulator receivers that assist with airborne training and operations.

SRC Can is a subsidiary of SRC International, Inc., a holding company for SRC, Inc.’s companies operating outside the U.S., per the SRC website.

SRC is a nonprofit corporation headquartered in Cicero that focuses on areas that include defense, environment, and intelligence.

SRC Can is “helping to shape the future defense and intelligence information architectures” that will support the Canadian Armed Forces and their allies, SRC contended.

“We are excited to be launching SRC Can to strengthen our relationship with the Canadian Armed Forces,” Paul Tremont, president and CEO of SRC, said. “SRC Can will play a major role in supporting the EW modernization effort to help protect Canadian warfighters.”

Mark Patterson is the first SRC Can employee, serving as the managing director. He started work Oct. 1, SRC said in an email response to a BJNN inquiry.

Patterson will lead efforts to support SRC Can’s customers with EW modernization and intelligence mission data (IMD) efforts.

The company expects to expand SRC Can’s employee count by an additional 12 to 20 workers, in addition to Patterson, “to support several contracts over the next year,” per SRC’s email response.

More in regards to the expansion...

WITH STATE HELP, BYRNE DAIRY LAUNCHES $125 MILLION PLAN TO EXPAND FACILITIES, CREATE NEARLY 250 JOBS

DeWITT, N.Y. — Byrne Dairy on Thursday broke ground on a $24 million expansion at its Ultra Dairy plant in DeWitt, representing the first phase of the company’s $125 million plan to expand and create nearly 250 jobs in Onondaga County.

The three phases — supported by $15 million in state funding — include several additional projects at its other production and warehouse facilities.

The initial phase will create 30 new jobs and includes a 42,000-square-foot expansion, the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a Thursday release.

In addition to the 30 new jobs, the Ultra Dairy expansion will help retain almost 200 jobs at the facility.

The expansion will also allow the plant to increase its packaging capability, along with additional processing capacity and storage space.

Additional projects include a further expansion of the DeWitt facility, expansion of the company’s yogurt and cultured-product facility in Cortlandville, and an extension of its warehouse capabilities in Syracuse and DeWitt which will result in the creation of 248 new jobs.

New York State is providing a $7.5 million grant for the projects through the “CNY Rising†Upstate Revitalization Initiative funding. In addition, the state is offering another $7.5 million through the Excelsior tax-credit program in exchange for the job creation commitments.

“We’re excited to begin this next chapter of Ultra Dairy’s growth,†Carl Byrne, president and CEO of Byrne Dairy Inc., said in the release. “Our ability to expand to meet the growing demands of our customers is critical to the success of not only Byrne Dairy, but also family farms throughout Central New York. Under Gov. Cuomo’s leadership, Empire State Development has been a strategic partner in ensuring Byrne Dairy’s continued growth,†Byrne said.

The company’s Ultra Dairy plant, located at 6750 W. Benedict Road in DeWitt, first opened in 2004. The facility uses an ultra-high-temperature pasteurization process to extend shelf life of up to 150 days.

Ultra Dairy processes conventional and organic milks, creams, and other dairy products as well as a variety of non-dairy products. The expansion will allow Byrne Dairy to “substantially increase†output by adding processing capacity and increasing efficiencies in downstream equipment.

I’m curious to see if this will have a positive, if any, impact on Bristol-Myers Squibb locally: https://news.bms.com/press-release/c...ier-innovative

For those not familiar with the facility: https://www.bms.com/about-us/our-com...-new-york.html (There are 22 job openings at the facility)

It would be great to form an alliance with this accelerator in order to create more jobs at the facility or to help increase the BioTechnology presence in the area.
