This thread has been so helpful. My husband has been offered a job in Tallahassee. We live in Seattle. I used to live in Salem, Oregon, which is the capitol of Oregon. I do not want to live in Salem, and it seems like Tallhassee is the Salem of Florida. At least Tallahassee got a Trader Joe's, I might be able to survive. But it's so far from any big cities. Summers seem to be awful. I'd probably take my kids and spend most of the summer back with our families in the Northwest anyway (which, by the way, although it rains 9 months of the year, the summers are absolutely gorgeous up here). Anyway I think we're not going to do it.

Phantasteek, so your saying your husband is going to accept the job in Tallahassee?

Its really not that far away from big cities, and actually it has most of what you need anyways. Jacksonville is 2 hours a way, Atlanta is 5 hours away, Orlando is 3.5-4 hours away, and Tampa is 4.5 hours away.

Really, truly and honestly most people only like to go out of town for big name shopping, and dining, of which Tallahassee is getting more and more of a selection all the time.

We have 2 nice little emerging districts, Collegetown/Gaines, and Midtown, both are growing very quickly into hubs of dining, shopping, entertainment, etc.

Tallahassee is a beautiful city with an extremely high quality of life.

I think you should definitely take a visit before you cross it off your list.

Also, Summers are hot, thats why we have beautiful beaches in all directions, and swimming pools everywhere.

Dont fret! come visit!
