My wife and I are in our late 20's and looking to relocate to a nice beach area and buy a autobody shop. We would like a safe area about 30-45 min from a nice beach. I have worked in this industry for 14 years running a very large shop in sw Missouri. I currently make 60k plus and have around 250k in the bank. Any info about the area, ideas, and most importantly how saturated this market is and general living conditions in the area. We are already used to mid 90's temps and very high humidity so that won't be a problem. Thanks in advance for any info. In addtion we would like to start off in an apartment. And if I can't find a shop to buy and fell in love with the area I would settle for another bodyshop job or work as an INS. Adjuster.

Not to be all negative but you might want to rethink buying any business on the Gulf Coast for awhile. The economic impact of the oil spill is going to cripple an already down economy should the oil find its way to the area like it has already in Louisiana. People forget, its a ripple effect with this kind of disaster. It's not just like you won't be able to eat Gulf fish/seafood for awhile. It's like people losing jobs in the fishing industry, people losing jobs in the hotel/restaurant industry because tourists stop coming, the service sector (retail,etc.) losing money and laying off people because there are no tourists, and the locals are dealing with high unemployment and less money...and on and on. It's going to be a hot mess. I like the Tampa Bay area, but you might want to consider the Atlantic coast side also.

People that dont know what they are talking about that advice people to abandon the area.
If you recommend 1000 people the same thing, then it is your fault and not the oil that 1000 new businesses will not get started in St Petersburg\Tampa
There are almost 4 million people in the greater tampa metropolitan area. Would you recommend that every single one of these people should move to the atlantic?
There are not anything wrong with Tampa Bay and there is no oil spill, just propaganda like you have been fooled by

Sounds like smart advice to me. I would hang tight for a while. This whole "oil thing"s just getting started.

There is no "pie-in-the-sky, gee-shucks, everything is going to be just fine" spin on this. The rig is still vomiting up oil daily. I just bought a condo in St Petersburg, five minutes to the beach and i am going there tomorrow to close the deal.
I am not worried at all that the deal was bad or that the oil will come near the beach.
Do you remember when everyone was talking about the ozon layer? it was panic and people thought that the world was going to end, then suddenly it was no problem any more.
This is a bad situation for the people in Louisiana but i am sure that people will take care of everything and clean up all of the oil spill.
There are a lot of people in this who say to themselves "if there is something bad, we will take care of it" rather than run.
I am sure that in five years, the effect of the oil spill has disappered and everything will be back to normal.
