The hot weather gets really old. Hot is one thing, discustingly hot AND humid is another. I dont know where your coming from but the only reason im in FL is the same reason your second guessing coming.
My wife can walk into a job where we want to go, I would have to find a new one. We have 1 kid who is almost 2. She is SUPER close with my parents and would hate to take them away from eachother and also were both set in good jobs here, is it worth starting over and ultimately setting outselfs back several years as far as finances go? I know exactly how he feels unfortunately haha.

Some really like that heat and humidity, others find it a living hell, only our OP can answer that question...

I worked construction on many of the highrises that now line the beaches west of St Pete, also worked on several golf courses. The heat was never a problem when i was young but that level of heat and humidity now that i'm in my 60's would probably kill me, With a bit of foresight i moved to Canada about 35 yrs ago..

I work in an office so heat is not a factor. My husband works in an office as well.

I'm sure the main reason for this move is not about the comfort of sitting in an air conditioned office its about getting out to explore all that Florida has to offer, thats where your tolerance to heat and humidity will come into play, Some thrive on Floridas weather, others are imprisoned in an air conditioned environment for much of the year.
For me i can deal with northern winters a whole lot better than i can deal with Florida summers.

Everyone gets nervous before they move. We have moved a few times and were a bit nervous moving to Tampa. No family, no friends, didn't know anybody. We left our family, friends and free rent to move here. Do I regret it? Nope... we love it here. Do I miss our old state? Only during the summer, definitely not during the winter.

Some people have little problems moving into new towns. Others don't. DW is my best friend and has been for a long long time. I like to think that helps.

I rarely use A/C but when we came down during Labor Day I did use it more than I do here because of the humidity. I never use the A/C in my car even on 90 degree days but it was a tad sticky in FL :-)

I am a beach goer and love being on the water so I would love the weather most of the year. Sure July and Aug might be a little more than I like but I am stuck inside Jan - April here.

Leaving family and friends is the BIG REASON for the hesitation and moving somewhere we know nothing about other than vacations and what I read on the internet. I have vacationed there for 15 years but it was always 'beachy' and looking at school and neighborhoods that are safe for our kids is scary to me. What if I pick a bad location? What if I can't afford the better areas?

I need more time to think and another trip with a Realtor I think. Do Realtors help with rentals?

We tried that move and it really didnt work out so good as far as family goes. The first year we were there a few people came down to visit. After that the visits were fewer and farther between. If you can afford to fly back and forth or your family can afford it thats a good thing. Seeing the kids and grandkids once or twice a year just didnt work. We moved back and are much happier now. There's a whole lot more to life than warmer weather.

I am also thinking about moving to Tampa/Clearwater next yr. and it is very scarey. Now I only have to worry about myself so I think that is a little less stressful than with a family. But I go back and forth all the time about location, jobs,family.. but I don't want to wonder 5 more yrs from now what if.... I dont know anyone ever knows what will be until you are living it. Follow your heart. Good luck
