I agree. Water filling an underground void would provide support to the limestone roof of the void preventing collapse. It's usually when the void is dry a long time and water works it way through the limestone layer wearing it away a little at a time that causes collapse.

Some of the photos I have been seeing that are called "sinkholes" seem to be more like sand base of the roadway washing out. Could be the asphalt road surface leaking water into the sand below slowly compacting it overtime or physically relocating the sand elsewhere underground. Then a whole lot of rain, big washout, not a sinkhole. The 2 photos below are road washouts, not sinkholes. I think the description of a sinkhole should be something like picture # 3.

Now THIS is a SINKHOLE:

No matter what you want to call the hole.I wouldn't want my house anywhere near it or on top of it.

You have tons of choices. Ocala area, north of there like Lake City, Hernando County just to name few. What are you looking for in the area that would be choice to you and we can narrow it down a bit.

You will certainly find the Spring Hill area south to be nothing like you would have remembered it years ago. Too much influx of newcomers. Everybody's got to live somewhere.

Do a search on here for Portrichey. It's bad with plenty of crime and drugs.

Absolutely. One must know what the area consists of, offers and does not offer.
I would not move a family to Spring Hill personally. I think it is more a place for older folks, over 45 or so. If you had done the proper research PRIOR to moving to Spring Hill you would have had the answers to your concerns beforehand and saved yourself a lot of grief
and disappointment.

Totally agree. And yes, I should have researched the area better before moving here. I guess when I moved here I had high hopes that it would turn into something it was not. Lesson learned. As for the vacant home percentage, I tried to find my original source for that number, but I could not. I found this one instead:

That is a good link. I saw it earlier today while looking for the vacancy rates of homes in the area.
As you can see, it is not near the 24 percent stated.

We first saw Spring Hill in early 90's. We were looking for a better way to Orlando from Clearwater Beach where we'd spend our long weekends and get-aways. Then I found out an old colleague of mine lived out here and we'd come out from Orlando to visit them and deeply check out Spring Hill.
The more we came out, there more we liked it. When the time came to make the move from Orlando to Anywhere U.S.A. because we were both going to be free and clear of our employment and our home, Spring Hill was the choice because it fit our needs perfectly.

I do remember saying to my wife while I sat at the light at SHD and US 19 and said "This is the next boom area". Well, it has blossomed quite well and the future does hold better prospects for employment in the area.

Now you obviously studied your next locale of choice to the point you already know it will be suitable for you.

Yes, I see that. The other link I had said 24%, so obviously there is a mistake somewhere. Or I could have read it incorrectly.

It was definitely a learning experience, that's for sure! People definitely need to do their homework before moving to a new locale … a lesson I learned the hard way. At least now I know what the best fit is for my family, though.
