I rented a house in St.Pete for a month off of craigs list no problems. Request a phone number, that weeds out most of the scammers. If they give you one ,type the number on google search ,get names, call the the number and talk to the person on the other end ,feel the vibe you get by their answers, ask allot of questions. If you talk to someone acting as an agent I would be leery. If the house is for sale it may be a scammer trying to get you to send deposit on house he doesn't own . Use common sense. In my search the owners address came up to the house next to the rental house so it worked out.
