I did a quick search in this forum and found some good comments about home owners insurance. But, the recommendations "for and against" various insurance companies is not easily found.

For people shopping around for homeowners insurance (like myself), I found this website (Compare Homeowner's Insurance Rates). It is run by the Governor and Insurance Commissioner.

There are lots of companies listed (for e.g. Hillsborough County companies are here (Compare Homeowner's Insurance Rates (printable format) (http://www.shopandcomparerates.com/HOCountyRates_Print.htm - broken link)).

If our members can post which insurance companies they are with with pros/cons, it will be helpful for people like me in the long run.
Thanks

Thanks for posting these websites. It does seem hard to get information about insurance and for those of us who have to move to FL it would be nice to know how much we can look forward to paying in our monthly mortgage.

Can anyone tell me if this is true or not? Someone on here posted that insurance is cheaper on homes built after 2002 and not to buy the bigger boxy looking houses as those are more insurance as well? We are interested in some homes that were built in the 1990's. Are we going to get killed on insurance?

Thanks!

Checkout AAA website as well. They will also show quotes from different companies and are pretty competitive rates.
