Anyone that would pay $3000 for any dog should be slapped upside the head.
My dog cost me $75 at the Humane Society, that covered spaying, microchip, etc.
I also didn't help support breeders when there are so many dogs that need a home at shelters.

Exactly - what about the freedom for people who wish NOT to live in an area with aggressive dogs? That was one reason I selected by current residence w/ HOA.

3 grand on a dog? Wow, sounds like you got some disposable income.

I agree.

Plus a good majority of the dogs at the shelters are pit bulls.

Actually, most "pit bulls" are not pitbulls, but are labeled as them.

Pet Pitbull - Find the Pit Bull

For those too lazy to click, its number 16.

Does your HOA exclude aggressive dogs or pit bulls?

Excluding aggressive breeds is something that is common in both apartment complexes and condominiums with HOAs, however I think it's relatively rare for HOAs in other communities to ban them. I've lived in houses in two different HOA communities, one being much more restrictive than the other, and neither banned these dogs outright. There were regulations governing nuisance animals or dogs that were labeled as dangerous due to being involved in attacks, however nothing prohibiting certain breeds altogether.

Yes - had to ask my HOA to enforce the rule w/ a neighbor recently. The pitbull mix was off the leash several times. Glad that the HOA got involved before I had to make it ugly.

Here's an idea, avoid gated communities with HOAs. Problem solved.

My biggest problems with these rules and laws is the fact that most people could not pick a pit bull out of a group of dogs and it just gives people free reign to ban any dog that they basically don't like the looks of.

If they are banning based on the temperament of the dog is one thing but to do it on looks is ridiculous.

Only time I have been bitten was by a mutt which looked nothing like a pit.
